An overview of business intelligence concepts: From the business requirements and challenges that drive a BI project, to the tools and technologies that are available to address these requirements: query and reporting tools, data warehouses and data marts, ETL, change data capture, data quality management, metadata and more, with an emphasis on the IBM i platform..

Session II (3:30-5:00)

Dimensional Modeling:

The architecture and design of Data Warehouses and Data Marts is both an art and a science. Success often depends on throwing out the common designing principles used in database design for OLTP systems and thinking differently. This session will focus on the concept of Dimensional Modeling - probably the best and most widely implemented data modeling technique for data warehouses. The session will review the basics and get into details of star schema design, surrogate keys and slowly changing dimensions, with practical examples and demonstration.
