Presents: Security in Jurassic Park

In the movie Jurassic Park, there is a depiction of security in the regular testing of the electric fences to keep the dinosaurs out of the tourist compound. However, as we all know, the electric fences eventually failed and the dinosaurs breached the compound. Too often, we guard the security of the information assets in our trust in a similar way, but with a very small wooden fence and an occasional visual check of that fence from a distance. As a result (and like the movie), dinosaurs have already broken through the fence and are snooping around to see what they can devour. Terry's presentation will cover the indicators of security breach, the upcoming onslaught of remediation requirements, and strategies to help you protect the compound in your Jurassic Park.

Terry Ford started his IT career in 1984 as a Programmer in a local government shop in Rock Island designing municipal and court applications. After a few years of programming he was promoted to Data Processing Manager where he started down the path of IT security with the publication of his first article on Menu-based security. In 1988, Terry joined IBM as an SE in the local branch office implementing the newly announced AS/400. When a job opened at the S/36 to AS/400 Migration Factory in Rochester, MN in 1993, Terry couldn't resist the opportunity to work at one of IBM's most prestigious facilities. Besides the Migration Factory, Terry has spent the last 15 years working in Competitive Analysis, the Customer Benchmark Center, and his current position as Security Practice Leader for STG Lab Services. Terry has authored several white papers and holds a patent on Workload Characterization.
