Topic 1: How to Effectively Use SQL in your Workflow with SQL iQuery for the IBM i. Developers will learn how to easily enhance their SQL skills with the scripting language included free with SQL iQuery. iQuery Script provides you with a sort of "CL for SQL" tool. It allows you to use classic IF/THEN/ELSE logic to conditionally build SQL statements dynamically. This allows users to avoid the complexity of other methods. In addition, users can send the results of SQL iQuery to any of several popular non-database formats, such as JSON, Excel, CSV, XML, PDF, etc. SQL iQuery Script is an interpreted language. It works similar to JavaScript in that it is interpreted, but it uses an RPG IV style free-format syntax, so you already know how to code it.

Topic 2: A Dozen or More RPG IV Coding Tips for the Modern RPG Programmer. Bob Cozzi's popular "101 Dynamite Tips and Techniques" has some of the best tips for today's RPG coding challenges. In this presentation, Bob updates several and presents a few previously unpublished tips of the trade.

Bob is one of the original IBM i customers and developers. Starting on S/32 way back in 1977, then moving to System/38 in 1981. Bob started the first midrange marketplace newsletter, Q38 Technical Journal in early 1983. In the late 1980's he realized there was no book on RPGIII that actually covered RPGIII, so he wrote: "The Modern RPG Language" which became the first midrange book ever published. It also went on to become and still is the best-selling midrange book of all time. In its current 5th Edition it covers the Modern RPG IV Language. Shortly thereafter, the IBM AS/400 was announced and Bob bought his own AS/400 model B10 and also renamed Q38 to Midrange® magazine which he eventually sold to News/34/38. In the mid-1990s, he created two popular software products for OS/400, "Visual RPG" and "SQL Lite". Today he supports and promotes his popular "SQL iQuery" product, a contemporary version of "SQL Lite" that is completely re-written from the ground up in IBM ILE C++ for the IBM i platform.
Bob joined the COMMON User Group in 1980 and served in every position up through President in 2000. While there, he pioneered the two most successful new education offerings: COMMON University and the IT Executive Conference. He retired from COMMON in 2002.
